The Contents of a Suitcase

We are currently sitting in the Miami airport, waiting for our connection on to Quito. It’s a bit of a brutal layover (7 hours), although not the longest we’ve ever had (which I believe was 16 hours) and it’s allowing me lots of time to catch up on grad school homework.

I am obviously not working on homework right now though and since I am taking a bit of a break, my mind has wandered to wherever our suitcases must be and all the things that we managed to cram inside.

We brought one duffel bag of stuff back to the States…with two empty duffel bags stuffed inside. Now all three of those bags are filled and are hopefully not dripping with broken groceries. Here are just a few things that we are hoping didn’t break:
Spicy Thai Peanut Sauce
Salsa Valentina (Alex’s most missed sauce)
Mango Chutney
Tabasco Sauce
Salsa Verde
Honey Mustard

not to mention all the things that didn’t come in breakable bottles like:
Chocolate Chips
Butterscotch Chips
PB chips
Walnuts
Pecans
Frosted Shredded Wheat
Kosher Salt
Brownie Mix
Thyme
Peanut Butter (the largest jar I could find)
Cheez-its
Ritz Bitz

oh yea…and I hope my big bag of frozen sausage patties is still at least a little bit cold!

Now the trick will be rationing these items out and not simply eating them all by next weekend!

  1. Casualties:

Mango Chutney (half a bottle opened, but was mostly contained to the ziploc we put it in)

Cheez-its (not that many actually spilled but the ones that did ended up crushed and all over everything…kind of like cleaning orange sand out of the bottom of your suitcase)

Shampoo (this was the messiest spill we had, leaking out of the ziploc we put it in. alex thought it was thai peanut sauce all over our clothes and tasted it…hahaha)
