Seventh graders created these Aztec Sun Stones. I wanted them to get experience with print-making so we learned about the Aztec Sun Stone and then each student created their own version on a piece of styrofoam. Rather than create an actual calendar, I simplified the sun stone by having the students put a face/sun in the middle and then create a repeating pattern around the outside.
By drawing in the foam with a pencil or pen a relief is created. The students then put ink on the styrofoam and printed it onto different colors of paper.
The printing day is the best because everyone is out of their seat, moving around the room and getting messy!
