Slab Puzzle Containers

My Ceramics I students made slab puzzle containers again this year.  I love this project because the students get really creative with some fairly basic guidelines.  They are required to use slabs to build an enclosed container that they then cut open in some sort of puzzle fashion.  Their container must have a theme and significant additive and subtractive relief.  As with most projects I have taught in Ceramics, the students have taken examples from the year before and been inspired to create even more interesting and unique art pieces.  The slab pots my students created during my first year at SIS are here, the projects from my second year are here and here are just a few examples of work from this year’s students:
