I’ve taught this project before in both Honduras and in Ecuador.  I absolutely love it.  It brings out such interesting information about the kids and gives them a chance to express themselves personally while also learning how to paint with watercolors.  Each map has at least 10 symbols that represent the student’s past, present and future.  These are the maps that some of my 7th and 8th graders here in Korea created:
