First semester in my 10th grade class was spent working on these symbolic self-portraits. The students brainstormed important things about themselves and how to represent them visually. They then used a photo of themselves and their visual symbols to re-create their face using the symbols. I let them use whatever materials they wanted to add color (including flowers and leaves cut from the trees outside my room) so in the end we had some pretty impressive multi-media symbolic students!
Thank you for your fantastic report on your students. So glad you're back posting these on your blog. It gives a lot of enjoyment to your older viewers. WE also enjoy your trips, but it is so “cool” to see how young people see things.
Much love from Madison

Wow. They're great- they did so much with them- and it was a privilege to see them in progress. ATC
