Bittersweet

We are officially done with school. Rooms have been cleaned and organized, personal items have been brought home, keys have been turned in.
As excited as we are for summer, it is also very hard to say goodbye (something we seem to be making an every other year habit of).
I have lost count of how many times I have cried this week, and I’m sure there will be several more as we say goodbye to more people over the next few days.
We have both loved Honduras so much. Our jobs have been great. We love our administrators, coworkers, and students. The country is beautiful and we have made wonderful friends. Honduras will always have a special place in our hearts.
We leave for Belize on Monday for a relaxing beach vacation, and then welcome my mom and brother on the 17th. The four of us will head to Utila for one last diving adventure and then we will schlep 7 bags, 1 large mahogany chest, and various carry-on items back to the Midwest.
It’s been an amazing two years…

  1. You brought back memories of our last days living in Sweden. I have a picture of me sitting on the only furniture we had left, a garden bench and a small garden table in our empty living room, everything else was on it's way to the U.S. in a container. I don't know where those 30 years went. I still can close my eyes and see every inch of our house. I think the intensity of the feelings will fade but they will always be there.
I love the pictures of you two flashing by on the right of the screen.

  2. It is interesting that you posted this comments. I was talking to Roberta at the beginning of the week, about how you will be feeling about leaving Honduras. I know for personal experience, and as Lois mentioned, how we mentally go through things. The beauty of memories will be there, does not matter where you go . They are yours, think about all the enrichment of your life. If would not have been Honduras you would not have been engaged, and etc. I think the readers will agree with me. I became kind of addicted and excited about your blog over the last two years. Always to have some news about your activities and adventures, almost like waiting for the newspaper in the morning. Both of you did a wonderful job and I really thank you for letting me be part of your experience through the blog. I learned too much about you Caitlin and of course even more about Alex. You two make me feel so proud about your accomplishments as teacher, I know for a fact that the school is loosing two great teachers. I also know that your students will talk about your for the year to come. And of course the ladies of the PTA will be missing having Alex in the annual dances. Mission accomplished with great pride

  3. Aw, your post made me sad. I think I will feel that way about FL, and I did about Green Bay. These 2 years have flown by! Can't wait to see you in month or so! I've missed you!
